How can I be sure someone I meet online is who they say they are?

I am a 19-yr-old college student and like most college students I have a facebook. One day I saw an add for speed-dating on the side of the page and joked with my roomie about trying it out. One thing led to another and next thing I know im on a 3 minute date with some random guy ( I wasn't even looking for anyone) and we managed to hit it off. We start chatting on aim and I have never talked to someone so perfect. I am just afraid he is some old weirdo that just knows exactly what to say. I am friends with him on facebook though. I am just paranoid and afraid that he managed to fake the entire thing(although highly unlikely). please dont tell me the standard... ask a lot of questions meet in a safe place answer. I know that. What sort of questions could I ask to help me make sure he isnt an old creeper with too much time on him hands?

Don't go out with people you meet on facebook. Not a wise idea.
Reply:Wait awhile before meeting him, thats what I'd do. never considered using online for dating... good idea, lol!

Check out his friends. does he have a lot of young female friends? ask them about him... that's what I'd do.
Reply:Hmm if a person you met can afford to lie how much more those people you just met online ?/???

to be honest in all my experience dating you just met online and in SMS doesnt really last but if you wanna have fun and then you could go ahead and date! but dont look forward for a serious date!
Reply:Maybe you can ask him if he has a webcam. Let him know you just want to make sure he is who he says. If he starts getting "offended" or what not, then most likely he isn't. If he agree's then you can know for sure.
