Do a lot of people just friend random people on Facebook?

I mean, some people have like 500+ friends and it's their freshman or sophomore year in college, no way they could have even come into contact with that many people, so I'm wondering if most of them just friend random people that go to their college or what not?

I reckon so. Then there are the people that treat it as though it were some dating chatroom. Ive had heaps of requests from random dudes. Ew.
Reply:some pple just accept invitations frm suggestions offered of pple they might know but never met. so if you know 10 pple n each of those 10 have 10 pple on their list , you might end up with a hundred
Reply:Maybe just like those people know that many people but only talk to about 20 of them.
Reply:Hell yeah, I'm really supposed to believe someone has 1000 friends? Ask them to name 100 simply by their first names and where they know them from. I've heard one guy used the line " Hey, did we pass by each other one time?" to one of my friends to try to friend request her. WHAT?!
