hello there,

so im a senior, about to graduate this year. i am still pretty undecided about college and such.so the other day i overheard that fordham university is in new york and is a great school.

so i never really payed any real attention to it but fordham university has sent me (what seems like) more emails than facebook.

so now that i know it is in new york, new york, and is a great school i really seem interested.

so my question is this. why have they been sending me sooo many emails? i mean in the one i got yesterday they said i could apply before february 1st and not pay a app fee.

this just sounds ridiculous, they wont make any money offa me. so whats the deal?

and for those who go there, is it a good school, were you accepted/or anyone you know after feb.1st?

id appreciate any information you have, thanks

Part of college rankings is based on the sheer number of applications received. The more people that apply, the more it looks like their schools is in high demand. They're sending you lots of email, because it's essentially free advertising. They can send thousands upon thousands of emails at no additional cost.

I didn't go to Fordham myself, but have a few friends who did. It is a quite good school and has received a lot of good press over the past few years.

Application fees mean pretty much nothing to schools at this point. Since most of the process is electronic, they don't have to hire any extra employees to handle the paper load that they used to. They make their real money from tuition, donations, and grants. This is true throughout academia. In the years to come, I believe that most schools will get rid of the application fee all together, as only less affluent students think twice about them. If you can apply before Feb. 1 and not pay anything, then you should absolutely do it even if you aren't entirely sure about the school. You can always get accepted and turn down their offer later or if they reject you, it's not like you paid anything. Good luck.
