Coming out through facebook?

So, I'm ready to come out of the closet and i will of course first tell my family and closest friends in person but I can't do that with everyone i know. So I thought a good way to let everyone know would be to put out a public note on facebook. I know one kid who i went to high school did this, but most people already knew he was gay (i hate to say it but he definitely fit the stereotype), so it wasn't really a big surprise. But what I've been told by the people I've told is that they had no idea and they know me better than anyone else. So I was wondering what others opinions on coming out in this manner are. I just feel i need to do something that puts like a line in the sand like from this point in time i am 100% out.





So any thoughts or advice would be great.

this would all depend on what your goal was





if your goal is to tell everyone from HS that you were gay and none of them are in your facebook - it becomes a meaningless jesture





if your goal is to let anyone who finds you on facebook to discover you this way upfront - then this would be the perfect method to use





you need to first determine who you want to tell - then how you want to do it - then put in plans of action to accomplish those goals





there may be multiple goals and methods for each goal - choose and pick the ones that make you happiest and are the easiest to accomplish - you will be fine
Reply:You're right, you should definitely tell your family first, so there is no whispering about it from other people which could possibly confuse things.


Hey, as long as you are willing to handle what everyone will say, then good luck (highlighting the "Interested in : Men" section of the facebook is ok), though I'm not sure why you feel you need to tell everybody. If people ask, it's one thing, but if not then why bother?
Reply:i think thats a good way, and if people start commentling you meanly, or removing you from their friends try not to let it bother you, if they wont accept you then they are not a good friend anyway
Reply:I would say it's a good way to get the word arround, but expect to have lots of nasty comments and messages left and given to you.
