He took my address to get DHL to pick it up, and than he was going to send me a fat check and than he wanted me to take what he owed me and send the change back to Beinn Republic or something like that by western union. sounds fishy doesn't i? or am i just being paranoid?

sounds very fishy and yes you should be very paranoid. In my opinion people are just not that trusting to agree to send money to strangers they meet on the internet. So if him/her is too willing to send you a check for a book that you may not even send to him/her then know that you are being scammed and run
Reply:He's trying to get your account number somehow. He'll have your name, address, and checking account no. This equals big scam! Just don't do business with him. Tell him you changed your mind.
