Coming out with a facebook note?

So, I'm ready to come out of the closet and i will of course first tell my family and closest friends in person but I can't do that with everyone i know. So I thought a good way to let everyone know would be to put out a public note on facebook. I know one kid who i went to high school did this, but most people already knew he was gay (i hate to say it but he definitely fit the stereotype), so it wasn't really a big surprise. But what I've been told by the people I've told is that they had no idea and they know me better than anyone else. So I was wondering what others opinions on coming out in this manner are. I just feel i need to do something that puts like a line in the sand like from this point in time i am 100% out.





So any thoughts or advice would be great.

this would all depend on what your goal was





if your goal is to tell everyone from HS that you were gay and none of them are in your facebook - it becomes a meaningless jesture





if your goal is to let anyone who finds you on facebook to discover you this way upfront - then this would be the perfect method to use





you need to first determine who you want to tell - then how you want to do it - then put in plans of action to accomplish those goals





there may be multiple goals and methods for each goal - choose and pick the ones that make you happiest and are the easiest to accomplish - you will be fine
Reply:i guess it's good to put the note on facebook, and if you really want alot of people to know yell out during all ur classes

Coming out is typically an experience that causes a ton of questions, especially if you don't fit the stereotype.


Your parents and friends should definitely be told verbally rather than stumbling onto your FaceBook and seeing this big surprise, Hun.


A lot of them will exhibit homophobia if they find out that way.
